February 23, 2018 - Versailles, Sacre' Coeur, & Paris at Night

We hadn't originally planned on going to Versailles, but we were more efficient in doing the things in town than we had anticipated.  So, we took the train out to explore this historic, ostentatious palace.  We found the audio tour quite interesting, though a few portions of the palace were closed for renovation.  Again, the crowds must be overwhelming in the summer time, since there were still throngs of people on this cold, February day.  We wished we could have seen the seemingly endless gardens in bloom!

We felt this was a prime opportunity to try the beautiful and delicious French macarons!

We "enjoyed" a chilly picnic on the grounds, but we had to hunker down behind a wind-break to keep from freezing.

This is the Gallery of Battles.  It is an enormous hall full of enormous paintings depicting many terrible battles going back to the year 300 A.D.  It presented a rather bloody and depressing history of France.

After getting back to Paris, we tried to catch the sunset at Sacre' Coeur (Sacred Heart) Cathedral.  We just missed the sunset, but the city lights were beautiful to see from up on the hill.  We also stopped for some yummy crepes, both savory and sweet.  We walked by the Moulin Rouge on our way back to the apartment.  We had a great time in Paris!
