March 2, 2018 - Home in Rome

We tried our first Italian pizza on the way back up to Rome.  It was delicious, of course!

We got settled in the apartment where we will live for the next month (We will be in another apartment for the following two months.).  It is lovely and very comfortable, light, and homey.  We are amazed at the ancient Roman walls and ruins and impressive cathedrals all around us.

This is the view out our window.  It is the Basilica di Santa Croce in Gerusalemme.

We have been taking things much slower since arriving in Rome.  Both Heather and Hannah have been sick, so we have done a lot of resting and recuperating.  However, we did get out for the afternoon to tours some of the major squares and fountains and the Pantheon.

Piazza Navona

The Pantheon is a former Roman Temple and now church that was finished and dedicated about 126 A.D. The engineering mathematics of the structure are amazing and it has stood as an architectural example for many domes around the world.

The hole in the ceiling is 30 feet across. When rain comes in, it drains away through holes in the marble floor.
